MindTouch is constantly looking to provide an exceptional experiences to its commercial customers along with the Core community members. With this in mind, MindTouch recently consolidated our various installer packages that were being maintained separately so that, regardless of how a user installed MindTouch, they would be able to select MindTouch Core, MindTouch Platform or MindTouch TCS to install.
This change to the installer allowed MindTouch to make the following improvements:
- No longer would users accidentally install Commercial offerings when they meant to install Core.
- MindTouch now has only 1 package to maintain when getting ready for a release which increases the speed in which MindTouch can release new versions .
- MindTouch is still available via Linux Packages, VMware, and MindTouch MSI deployments for Commercial and Core offering. Previously MindTouch Core wasn’t available through the Windows MSI.
With these changes, there is the chance for confusion. There has been feedback from the community about questions around why a “license” needs to be applied to the Core install. Since we have a consolidated deployment for all products, an activation key needs to be applied in order to load the correct version of MindTouch.
The need for applying this activation key wasn’t intended to signal any departure from Open Source nature of MindTouch Core. You can still compile from source and is still licensed the same.
For an overview of how to apply the license review our License documentation.
MindTouch just created an Amazon EC2 AMI for the EU region. This allows users in Europe to launch MindTouch on an Amazon EC2 instance hosted in the EU. The AMI ID is ami-e5604a91
You can follow the instructions in the developer community to set it up.
Please try it out and if you have any feedback please post it in the forums.
At MindTouch we always strive to improve the documentation of our product to make it easier for people to use and develop on top of MindTouch. In an effort to
improve our API documentation I’ve added a template to the following API pages in an effort to capture code samples from the community for the API functions. I encourage all to check out the Code Samples section of the following pages and to add code samples. Also please leave comments on this blog post about the way the way the section is setup so that we can improve it.
API Function Pages with new Code Sample Section:
After feedback we will implement any necessary changes and then roll this out across all of the API functions.
Thank you for any contributions.
Included with all of the new features of Lyons is an upgrade to FCKeditor. This upgrade introduced a new web based spell checker based off of www.spellchecker.net. If you have MindTouch Deki behind a firewall though, the spell check will not work. In order to get spell check working when MindTouch is behind your firewall, follow the steps listed in the following FAQ: http://wiki.developer.mindtouch.com/Deki/FAQ/Editor/How_do_I…Change_the_web_based_spell_check_to_local_Aspell
